AP-HP (Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris) is the most important group of hospitals in France, based in Paris - Ile de France for 15 million inhabitants and includes numerous expert centres with international reputations. P. Hubert and P. Daoud are head of the departments of ICU in Necker hospital, Paris and in Montreuil hospital respectively and have been involved in many neonatal trials (ref 1).
P. Plouin is head of the department of clinical neurophysiology for children, at Necker hospital, Paris, part of the research unit INSERM U663 "Paediatric epilepsies and Brain plasticity" (head C. Chiron) hosted in Necker hospital, and developed an internationally recognized expertise in identifying and delineating new epilepsy syndromes in neonates, infants and children, based on video-EEG (ref2-3).
E. Walls is in charge of neonatal EEG in Montreuil hospital.
G. Pons and V. Jullien are respectively chief and co-chief of the department of Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology of the Hospital Saint Vincent de Paul, Paris and also part of U663, in which G. Pons is head of the team "Drugs of the Central Nervous system in Paediatrics". G. Pons is also vice-chair & French representative of the Pediatric Committee of EMEA, coordinator of RIPPS (French Paediatric Network Centre for Drugs), and involved in developing innovative methods for drug evaluation in children. The major research interest of the group is to develop new strategies of AED trials in specific epilepsy syndromes which are drug resistant in young children, within U663 (ref 4-5). The group has considerable experience of national and international multicenter pharmacological trials and was the first to design, coordinate and perform controlled trials in rare infantile epilepsies.
